Recipe of the Week: Whole Wheat Apple Pie
This week, we’re excited to bring you a delicious and wholesome recipe that captures the essence of autumn: Whole Wheat Apple Pie. This pie combines the hearty flavor of whole wheat flour with the subtle sweetness of ZUKR, offering a nutritious twist on a classic dessert.
Ingredients
Instructions
Prepare the Crust:
In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, ZUKR, and salt.
Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
Make the Filling:
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with ZUKR, whole wheat flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well coated.
Assemble the Pie:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Gently press it into the plate.
Fill the crust with the apple mixture.
Roll out the second disk of dough and lay it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal, and cut a few slits in the top for steam to escape.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
Let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Enjoy the Flavors of Fall
This Whole Wheat Apple Pie is perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra special treat. Enjoy your slice of autumn!
